PET DENTAL CARE
Pets need dental care too!
Your pet’s dental health is just as important to their overall health, as regular visits to the dentist is to your dental health. Clean teeth above and below the gumline and a healthy mouth are extremely important for your dog or cat. Our veterinarians and staff perform comprehensive pet dental cleanings, dental x-rays, tooth extractions and other pet dental procedures for your precious friends.
Periodontal Disease & Dental X-Rays
Periodontal disease is found in 80 percent of pets older than four years of age. Periodontal disease is a condition in which bacteria attack the soft gum tissue. With gum deterioration, bacteria have a clear path to the bloodstream and vital organs, such as kidney, liver, lungs and heart. Even when teeth appear healthy, bacteria can build up in spaces between teeth and gums resulting in extensive periodontal disease. Even tooth root abscesses may not be apparent and may require intra-oral radiographs (dental x-rays) to identify. Intra-oral radiographs may also be taken for other abnormal dental conditions. A few examples are:
Missing or fractured teeth
- Bleeding from the gums
- A tooth that is discolored
- Feline Odontoclastic Resorptive Lesions are present
- Periodontal disease is present
Intra-oral radiographs show the inside of the tooth and the root, which lie below the gum line. Intra-oral radiographs are critical in determining the health of your pet's mouth.
